Becoming proficient in English is challenging. Unless a person starts around the age of ten years old, getting better in English will take a while. There are many websites, apps, and programs that can teach people another language. Most of these are time-intensive or cost a lot of money to purchase. There is, however, a website that can expedite the learning of English along with common phrases and idioms that are commonplace.

The website is Sentencestack.com

I’ve looked through this website, and it has many advantages that other language learning websites do not have. First, the site is simple. It’s a clean site that has an easy vertical eye flow. There aren’t any extras on the left or right side, so keeping focus will not be an issue. On the first page, a person will find “How to Use,” which is great because you will not waste time searching for instruction.

The site has a search engine containing 1.2 billion sentences. Any person can improve their English. Even native English speakers can enhance their knowledge of learning words, phrases, and idioms. The site also comes with a grammar, spelling, and punctuation checker. Best of all, the site is free to use by anyone, anywhere in the world.

As stated, the site works as a search engine. A person can search for a phrase or an idiom they heard to know its exact meaning and use in context. For example, let’s say a person heard the idiom “the cat’s out of the bag.” If a person searches for this phrase on the Sentence Stack website, they will see its meaning at the top. In this case, the word means to reveal a secret. Below this, the website will provide examples of the phrase in different sentences.

The person will now have a clear understanding of the phrase. Next to each example sentence is the source, which provides more insight. The examples and sources are a fun way to learn, making learning easier for the person.

The site does have sub-sections a person can click at the bottom of the page.

Sentence Corrector

A person can learn how to correct their English sentences on this page. They would enter their sentence into the search box, and the results display an error (if there is one) and the correct way of writing the sentence.

Vocabulary Lists

On this page, the focus is if a person is to understand a word; one must see it in context. There are different word lists to help a person expand their vocabulary. If you click on the 350 vocab words, you will access the list of words, and you can click on each word to see their meaning and use in a sentence.

Reverse Dictionary

Here is a neat feature that many of us can use when we can’t think of a word that’s on the tip of our tongue (you can look up this phrase as well). In the reverse dictionary section, you enter a description of the word you want or a list of related terms, and the search engine will provide that missing word for you. The reverse dictionary is an excellent tool for writing also.

English Idioms

Sentence Stack believes mastering idioms is an essential part of a person’s learning journey. Native English speakers use idioms a lot and understanding them and their meanings will help increase proficiency.

My thoughts

Sentence Stack is a versatile tool that can be used by people needing to improve their English or by those who are native English speakers. The site is simple, and a person can become familiar with it quickly. I believe another advantage is that it can help a person write more efficiently, as they learn new definitions and phrases.
